For the Apples:
- 4 to 5 tart apples, such as Granny Smith or Pink Lady
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup Wondra flour
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 cup cinnamon
For the Dip:
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- 8 ounces Cool Whip or 1 cup whipping cream with ½ cup sugar, whipped until stiff
- 1 cup caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade
Instructions
- For the Apples: In a fry pan or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil for frying. Mix buttermilk and sugar in a bowl. Peel and slice apples, adding them to the buttermilk mixture to prevent browning.
- Spread Wondra flour in a shallow dish. Coat apple slices in flour.
- Fry coated apples in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- For the Dip: Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip, then stir in caramel sauce. Serve in a bowl with extra caramel drizzle.
