  • 4 to 5 tart apples, such as Granny Smith or Pink Lady
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Wondra flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup cinnamon

For the Dip:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip or 1 cup whipping cream with ½ cup sugar, whipped until stiff
  • 1 cup caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade

Instructions

  1. For the Apples: In a fry pan or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil for frying. Mix buttermilk and sugar in a bowl. Peel and slice apples, adding them to the buttermilk mixture to prevent browning.
  2. Spread Wondra flour in a shallow dish. Coat apple slices in flour.
  3. Fry coated apples in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  4. For the Dip: Blend cream cheese and Cool Whip, then stir in caramel sauce. Serve in a bowl with extra caramel drizzle.
