Instructions
- Soften the butter: Place the unsalted butter in a small bowl and allow it to soften at room temperature, making it easier to mix with the other ingredients.
- Preheat the oven and prepare the baking sheet: Arrange a rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 425ºF (220ºC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
- Slice the bread: Cut the Italian bread loaf horizontally in half using a serrated knife. Then cut each half crosswise into two pieces, resulting in four pieces total. Arrange the bread pieces on the lined baking sheet with the cut sides facing up.
- Prepare the scallions and garlic: Thinly slice the scallions and set aside 1 tablespoon of the dark green parts for garnish. Add the remaining scallions and minced garlic cloves to the softened butter.
- Make the garlic butter spread: Add mayonnaise, garlic powder, black pepper, sugar, and kosher salt to the butter mixture. Smash and stir everything together until well combined into a creamy, spreadable paste.
- Spread butter on the bread: Evenly spread the garlic butter mixture onto the cut sides of each bread piece, ensuring generous coverage for flavor.
- Prepare the cheese blend: Grate the mozzarella cheese using the large holes of a box grater and the Parmesan cheese using the small holes. Combine both cheeses in a medium bowl and toss to mix evenly.
