Ingredients
Scale
Donuts
- 1 tube biscuit dough (flaky jumbo, 8 biscuits)
- 4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Glaze
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 Tbsp milk
- Powdered sugar and red and green sprinkles (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a heavy-bottom pot, ensuring there is at least 2 inches of oil to cover the bottom. Heat over medium-high heat until the temperature reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with paper towels and place it near the stove to drain the fried donut holes.
- Make the glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Prepare dough pieces: Open the biscuit dough tube and cut each biscuit into 6 pieces using scissors. Roll each piece between your hands to form round donut holes.
- Fry the donut holes: Using a slotted spoon, carefully place a few donut holes at a time into the hot oil without crowding. Fry for a few minutes until golden brown on all sides.
- Drain and cool: Remove the fried donut holes and place them on the paper towel-lined baking sheet to drain excess oil and cool slightly.
- Glaze the donuts: Dip each donut hole individually into the glaze using a fork or tongs, allowing excess glaze to drip off. Arrange the glazed donut holes closely in a large round platter, shaping them into a wreath so they stick together.
- Decorate: Lightly dust the wreath with powdered sugar and sprinkle red and green sprinkles over the top for a festive finish.
Notes
- Be sure the oil temperature stays at 350°F for even frying and to prevent greasy donut holes.
- Do not overcrowd the pot when frying to maintain oil temperature.
- You can substitute milk with a non-dairy alternative if desired.
- Allow donut holes to cool slightly before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
- The biscuit dough works well for quick and easy donuts without the need for yeast.
