  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x
  • Diet: Low Fat

Description

This refreshing Cinnamon Date Smoothie combines the natural sweetness of ripe bananas and medjool dates with the warm spice of cinnamon, all blended into a creamy and nutritious drink with low-fat buttermilk and optional Greek yogurt for extra protein and creaminess. Perfect for a quick breakfast or an energizing snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 ripe small banana, frozen and cut into pieces
  • 2 medium medjool dates, pits removed
  • ½ cup ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed or meal
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more to garnish
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla paste or extract
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon plain Greek yogurt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Pour the low-fat buttermilk into a blender and add the frozen banana pieces, pitted medjool dates, ice cubes, flax seed or meal, ground cinnamon, vanilla paste or extract, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Blend Smooth: Blend all ingredients on high speed until the mixture becomes thick and smooth. Taste the smoothie and add more salt if needed to enhance the flavors.
  3. Prepare Glass and Serve: If using Greek yogurt, use the back of a spoon to swirl it inside a serving glass, then pour the smoothie into the glass. Garnish with a pinch of additional ground cinnamon on top and serve immediately for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Freezing the banana ahead of time helps create a creamy texture without needing additional ice.
  • Medjool dates provide natural sweetness; you can adjust the number of dates based on your preferred sweetness level.
  • Flax seed adds fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, but you can substitute with chia seeds if desired.
  • Using Greek yogurt is optional but adds creaminess and extra protein.
  • The vanilla paste elevates the flavor, but vanilla extract works just as well.
  • Adjust salt carefully to balance sweetness and enhance the overall flavor.
