Creamy French Dressing Recipe

  • Author: Mariam
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: About 1/2 cup (serves 4-6 as a salad dressing) 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This Creamy French Dressing is a vibrant, tangy, and smooth dressing perfect for drizzling over leafy greens or baby gem salads. Made with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, white wine vinegar, and a blend of oils, it delivers a balanced creamy texture infused with a slight sharpness from the mustard and vinegar, complemented by fresh chives. It’s quick to prepare and keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dressing

  • 2 tbsp whole-egg mayonnaise (or Kewpie mayonnaise)
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp grapeseed oil (or vegetable, canola, or other plain flavored oil)
  • 1/4 tsp cooking salt / kosher salt (halve amount if using table salt, increase by 50% if using flaky salt)
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp finely chopped chive

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the whole-egg mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, white wine vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, cooking salt, black pepper, water, and finely chopped chives into a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  2. Shake or Whisk: Shake the jar vigorously until the ingredients are fully combined and the dressing is smooth. Alternatively, use a whisk in a small bowl or jug to blend the ingredients evenly.
  3. Store: Refrigerate the dressing in the jar or an airtight container. It will keep fresh and flavorful for up to 3 days.
  4. Serve: Drizzle the creamy French dressing over leafy greens or a fresh salad like French Bistro Baby Gem Salad and toss gently to coat all leaves evenly before serving.

Notes

  • Use Kewpie mayonnaise for a slightly richer and tangier flavor.
  • White wine vinegar gives a delicate acidity; you can substitute with Champagne vinegar for a similar effect.
  • Grapeseed oil or other neutral oils help balance the stronger olive oil flavor and create a smooth dressing.
  • Fresh chives add a mild onion flavor and vibrant color; finely chop for best texture.
  • Adjust salt according to the type you use: halve if using fine table salt, or increase by 50% if using flaky salt.
  • Consume the dressing within 3 days for freshness and safety.
