  • Author: Mariam
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings (about 4 wedges per person) 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Crispy fried avocado wedges coated in a flavorful seasoned panko crust, perfect as a savory snack or appetizer. These golden-brown avocado pieces offer a creamy inside with a crunchy exterior, ideal for dipping and sharing.

Ingredients

Scale

Avocado and Breading

  • 4 slightly firm avocados
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Frying

  • Oil for frying (about 1 inch, vegetable or canola oil recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oil and avocado: In a deep skillet, pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). While the oil heats, slice the avocados in half lengthwise, remove the pits, and then cut each half into wedges.
  2. Set up breading stations: Arrange three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with panko breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Bread the avocado wedges: Dip each avocado wedge first in the flour ensuring an even coating, then dunk it into the egg wash, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned panko mixture.
  4. Fry the avocado wedges: Carefully place 4 to 6 breaded avocado wedges into the hot oil. Fry for approximately 2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning as needed to brown evenly.
  5. Drain and serve: Remove the fried wedges from oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure avocados are slightly firm to hold shape during frying.
  • Maintain oil temperature at 350°F to prevent soggy or oily avocado wedges.
  • Use seasoned panko for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Serve fried avocado wedges warm, as they are best enjoyed fresh.
  • Try different dipping sauces like ranch, spicy mayo, or salsa verde.
