Easy Fluffy American Pancakes Recipe

  • Author: Mariam
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 pancakes 1x

Description

Enjoy these easy, fluffy American pancakes perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch. Made with simple pantry staples and cooked on a skillet, these pancakes come out light and tender, ready to be topped with your favorite syrup and fresh fruits.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 2 Tablespoons melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg

Toppings (optional)

  • Maple syrup
  • Fresh berries
  • Banana slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven to Keep Warm: Preheat your oven to 200°F (90°C) and prepare a heatproof platter to keep the cooked pancakes warm while you finish cooking the rest.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt thoroughly to combine all dry ingredients evenly.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter (or vegetable oil), and egg until smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and gently stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay to ensure fluffy pancakes.
  5. Heat Skillet: Place a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and coat it generously with vegetable oil to prevent sticking and ensure browning.
  6. Cook Pancakes: Pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of batter per pancake onto the hot skillet. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and edges look set, approximately 1 minute. Flip carefully and cook the other side until golden brown, about 1 to 2 minutes more.
  7. Keep Warm: Transfer cooked pancakes to the prepared heatproof platter, cover loosely with foil, and keep warm in the oven while cooking the remaining pancakes.
  8. Serve: Serve warm with your choice of toppings such as maple syrup, fresh berries, or banana slices for a delicious breakfast treat.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep pancakes light and fluffy.
  • You can substitute milk for any plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Use melted butter for a richer flavor, or vegetable oil for a lighter taste.
  • Keep cooked pancakes warm in a low-temperature oven to serve them hot all at once.
  • Bubbles on the pancake surface indicate it’s time to flip the pancakes.
