Brownie Batter:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups (312.5 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Additional:

  • Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven. Line a baking dish with parchment paper. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Combine butter and brown sugar. In a large bowl, combine melted butter and packed brown sugar. Stir well.
  3. Mix in eggs, molasses, and vanilla. Add room temperature eggs, molasses, and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture.
  4. Whisk together dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Stir flour mixture into butter and egg mixture. Gradually stir the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until combined.
  6. Spread batter into pan. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes until set.
  7. Allow to cool. Sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar. Let the brownies cool completely before dusting with confectioners’ sugar. Cut and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves for extra spice.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light brown sugar.
