Description

This Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai Tea Latte is a cozy and flavorful drink perfect for chilly days. Combining warming spices like ginger and cinnamon with the creamy texture of oat milk and the rich flavor of chai tea concentrate, it’s sweetened naturally with a homemade gingerbread syrup. Topped with coconut whipped cream or frothy oat milk, this latte is a delightful dairy-free treat that captures the festive spirit of gingerbread in a comforting beverage.

Ingredients

Scale

Gingerbread Syrup

  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 1 ½ tbsp unsulphured molasses
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Beverage

  • ½ cup chai tea concentrate (note: if vegan, Starbucks boxed version contains honey)
  • ½¾ cup oat milk or milk of choice
  • Handful of ice
  • Coconut whipped cream or ¼ cup oat milk (to froth)

Instructions

  1. Make the Gingerbread Syrup: In a small pot over medium-low heat, combine the light brown sugar, water, and molasses. Whisk in the ground ginger and cinnamon thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  2. Simmer the Syrup: Allow the syrup to cook while stirring for 5-8 minutes until it slightly thickens, achieving a rich and flavorful consistency.
  3. Add Vanilla: Remove the pot from heat and stir in the pure vanilla extract to deepen the syrup’s flavor profile.
  4. Cool and Store: Let the gingerbread syrup cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the syrup into a sterilized, airtight container and refrigerate; it will keep fresh for 1-2 weeks.
  5. Prepare the Drink Base: Drizzle 1-3 teaspoons of the gingerbread syrup into your serving glass, adjusting the amount according to sweetness preference.
  6. Add Ice and Chai: Place a handful of ice into the glass, then pour the chai tea concentrate over the ice. For a hot latte, omit the ice and warm the chai tea gently on the stove or in the microwave.
  7. Add Milk and Stir: Pour ½ to ¾ cup of oat milk or your preferred milk over the chai. Stir gently to blend the flavors evenly.
  8. Top with Cream or Froth: Finish by dolloping coconut whipped cream on top or frothing ¼ cup oat milk and adding it as a creamy topping. Drizzle additional gingerbread syrup over the top for extra flavor and enjoy your latte!

Notes

  • For a vegan-friendly drink, verify the chai tea concentrate does not contain honey.
  • The gingerbread syrup keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
  • Adjust the gingerbread syrup amount to your taste for sweetness and spice intensity.
  • Use coconut whipped cream for a dairy-free topping; regular whipped cream can be substituted if preferred.
  • To make a hot version of the chai latte, heat the chai concentrate and milk instead of using ice.
