Description

Delicious glazed carrots cooked on the stovetop with a buttery brown sugar sauce, providing a sweet and savory side dish that’s perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Carrots

  • 1 1/2 lbs carrots, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Simmer Carrots: Place the sliced carrots in a large pan and add 1 1/2 cups of water. Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Cook until Tender: Allow the carrots to cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they become tender. Then promptly drain any excess water from the pan.
  3. Add Glaze Ingredients: Add the butter, brown sugar, and salt to the pan containing the carrots. Stir thoroughly to evenly coat the carrots with the glaze.
  4. Form Sauce: Continue to cook the glazed carrots for an additional 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will thicken the glaze into a smooth sauce that clings to the carrots.
  5. Finish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley over the glazed carrots if desired for garnish, then serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use fresh carrots for the best flavor and texture.
  • Peeling carrots is optional but recommended for a smoother finish.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar.
  • For a slight tang, add a splash of orange juice during glazing.
  • Chopped parsley adds a fresh herbal note but can be omitted.
