Description
Delicious glazed carrots cooked on the stovetop with a buttery brown sugar sauce, providing a sweet and savory side dish that’s perfect for any meal.
Ingredients
Scale
Carrots
- 1 1/2 lbs carrots, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch thick slices
Glaze
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Simmer Carrots: Place the sliced carrots in a large pan and add 1 1/2 cups of water. Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat.
- Cook until Tender: Allow the carrots to cook for 8-10 minutes, or until they become tender. Then promptly drain any excess water from the pan.
- Add Glaze Ingredients: Add the butter, brown sugar, and salt to the pan containing the carrots. Stir thoroughly to evenly coat the carrots with the glaze.
- Form Sauce: Continue to cook the glazed carrots for an additional 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will thicken the glaze into a smooth sauce that clings to the carrots.
- Finish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley over the glazed carrots if desired for garnish, then serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use fresh carrots for the best flavor and texture.
- Peeling carrots is optional but recommended for a smoother finish.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar.
- For a slight tang, add a splash of orange juice during glazing.
- Chopped parsley adds a fresh herbal note but can be omitted.
