Scale
Base Ingredients
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
Add-ins
- 1 cup Mini Pretzel Twists
Topping
- 1/2 cup White Chocolate, melted
- Green Food Coloring Gel (for chocolate)
- Red Grinch Hearts (candy decorations)
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Measure out all ingredients into small bowls or dishes to have them ready before starting, as the candy mixture will harden quickly and you won’t have time to prepare during the cooking process.
- Cook Sugar Mixture: In a microwave-safe medium bowl, combine the sugar and corn syrup and stir well. Microwave on high for 6 minutes, stirring halfway through at 3 minutes. While heating, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Add Butter and Mix-ins: Remove the bowl, add butter, then microwave for 1 additional minute. Remove and stir in mini pretzels, salt, and vanilla, then microwave again for 15 seconds to blend.
- Add Baking Soda and Spread: Stir in baking soda; the mixture will become light and foamy. Quickly pour the brittle mixture onto the lined cookie sheet. Using two utensils like spoons or forks, spread it out into a thin, even layer. Let it cool and harden for about 30 minutes until it feels firm to the touch.
- Melt and Color Chocolate: Melt the white chocolate in the microwave until smooth. Stir in green food coloring gel until well blended and you achieve the desired green color.
- Drizzle Chocolate and Decorate: Using a fork or small spoon, drizzle the green chocolate over the set brittle, leaving portions of the brittle visible. Press the red Grinch heart candies gently into the chocolate drizzle.
- Set and Serve: Allow about one hour for the chocolate to harden completely and the brittle to cool fully. Once cooled, break into pieces and serve. Enjoy your festive Grinch Brittle!
Notes
- Make sure to spread the brittle quickly once baking soda is added as the mixture foams and hardens rapidly.
- Using parchment paper helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier.
- You can adjust the amount of green food coloring to achieve your perfect shade of Grinch green.
- Store brittle in an airtight container to keep it crisp.
