  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Description

Hoagie Dip is a flavorful and hearty appetizer that combines layers of deli meats, cheese, and fresh vegetables with a tangy mayonnaise-based dressing. Served in a hollowed-out Italian bread loaf and accompanied by bread slices and crackers, this no-cook dip is perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Cheese

  • 1/2 pound turkey slices
  • 1/2 pound ham slices
  • 1/2 pound genoa salami slices
  • 1/4 pound pepperoni slices
  • 4 ounces provolone cheese slices

Vegetables

  • 1 cup sliced pepperoncini peppers (chopped)
  • 4 roma tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 23 cups shredded romaine lettuce

Dressing

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper

Serving

  • 1 loaf of Italian bread
  • Crackers for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meats and Vegetables: Chop the turkey, ham, salami, and pepperoni slices into similarly sized squares. In a large bowl, combine the chopped meats with provolone cheese slices, chopped pepperoncini peppers, chopped roma tomatoes, and finely chopped red onion.
  2. Make the Dressing: In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, olive oil, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and ground pepper until smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine the Dip: Pour the mayonnaise dressing over the meat, cheese, and vegetable mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly. Fold in the shredded romaine lettuce. Cover and allow the dip to rest for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Stir again before serving if prepared in advance.
  4. Prepare the Bread Bowl: Slice a large, deep opening on the top of the Italian bread loaf. Carefully hollow out the middle of the loaf by hand, removing the bread to create a bowl while keeping the shell intact.
  5. Slice the Bread for Dipping: Cut the removed bread pieces into small, bite-sized slices suitable for dipping into the hoagie dip.
  6. Assemble and Serve: Spoon the prepared dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl. Serve immediately alongside the bread slices and crackers for dipping.

Notes

  • Allow the dip to chill and flavors to meld for at least 30 minutes for the best taste.
  • You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or a favorite Melty cheese if preferred.
  • Adjust the amount of pepperoncini peppers to your preferred spice level.
  • Store leftover dip covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • This dip is best served fresh as the bread bowl may become soggy over time.
