Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts
Filling
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons flour
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon heavy cream (plus more as needed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare Dough: Roll out one pie crust into a 12-inch circle. Cut into six rectangles measuring approximately 3×4 inches. Reroll any scraps to cut out remaining pieces. Repeat this process with the second pie crust.
- Make Egg Wash: Whisk the egg together with 1 tablespoon of water until smooth and uniform.
- Arrange Base Dough: Place half of the dough rectangles on a clean work surface and brush the tops evenly with the egg wash to help seal the pastries later.
- Mix Filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour, stirring until well mixed.
- Add Filling: Evenly sprinkle about 1 ½ tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture onto each dough piece, leaving an edge clear around the sides to allow for sealing.
- Seal Pop Tarts: Lay the remaining dough rectangles over the filled pieces. Use a fork to crimp the edges tightly, sealing the filling inside. Brush the tops of each pastry with the egg wash for a golden finish.
- Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Place the pop tarts in the fryer basket without overcrowding, working in batches if necessary. Cook for 8-10 minutes until golden brown and crisp.
- Cool: Remove the cooked pop tarts from the air fryer and allow them to cool completely to room temperature before glazing.
- Prepare Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, and cinnamon in a bowl. Adjust with additional heavy cream as needed to reach your desired glaze consistency.
- Glaze Pop Tarts: Spoon or drizzle the glaze over the cooled pop tarts. Let the glaze set for about 15 minutes before serving to allow it to harden slightly.
Notes
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer; cook pop tarts in batches to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- The flour in the filling helps absorb moisture and creates a better texture inside the tart.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute heavy cream in the glaze with coconut cream or another non-dairy milk thickened appropriately.
- You can customize fillings by adding fruit preserves or other spices to suit your taste.
- Letting the pop tarts cool before glazing prevents the glaze from melting and sliding off.
