  • Total Time: 2 hrs 30 mins
  • Yield: 1 loaf (about 8 slices) 1x

Description

This Milk Bread recipe creates soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet bread enriched with honey and butter. Perfect for breakfast or as a snack, this homemade loaf features a tender crumb and golden crust, ideal for sandwiches or enjoying with your favorite jam.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups All Purpose Flour
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Dry Yeast

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup Warm Milk
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 3 tbsp Soft Unsalted Butter

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Take warm milk in a bowl and pour in the honey. Sprinkle over the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes or until it foams up.
  2. Form Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeasty milk mixture and stir well to begin forming the dough. Add the soft butter and knead for 5 to 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Butter a large bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately one hour or longer depending on room temperature.
  4. Shape and Second Rise: After the dough has doubled, punch it down to release air. Knead briefly and shape into a loaf. Butter a loaf pan and place the dough inside. Cover and allow it to rise again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  5. Preheat Oven and Bake: During the last 15 minutes of the second rise, preheat your oven to 190°C (380°F). Brush the top of the loaf with milk and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown on top.
  6. Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve: Once cooled, slice the bread and serve with jam or enjoy it plain as a soft and delicious treat.

Notes

  • Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • Kneading is crucial to develop gluten for a soft and fluffy bread texture.
  • Allowing the dough to rise fully enhances flavor and texture.
  • Brushing the loaf with milk before baking ensures a soft crust.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
