Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups All Purpose Flour
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Dry Yeast
Wet Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cup Warm Milk
- ¼ cup Honey
- 3 tbsp Soft Unsalted Butter
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: Take warm milk in a bowl and pour in the honey. Sprinkle over the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes or until it foams up.
- Form Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Pour in the yeasty milk mixture and stir well to begin forming the dough. Add the soft butter and knead for 5 to 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Butter a large bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, approximately one hour or longer depending on room temperature.
- Shape and Second Rise: After the dough has doubled, punch it down to release air. Knead briefly and shape into a loaf. Butter a loaf pan and place the dough inside. Cover and allow it to rise again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Preheat Oven and Bake: During the last 15 minutes of the second rise, preheat your oven to 190°C (380°F). Brush the top of the loaf with milk and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown on top.
- Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- Serve: Once cooled, slice the bread and serve with jam or enjoy it plain as a soft and delicious treat.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
- Kneading is crucial to develop gluten for a soft and fluffy bread texture.
- Allowing the dough to rise fully enhances flavor and texture.
- Brushing the loaf with milk before baking ensures a soft crust.
