These Oven Fried Feta Rolls with Chili Honey are a delightful appetizer featuring flaky phyllo dough filled with a flavorful mixture of feta, fresh dill, and garlic. Baked until golden and crisp, the rolls are served with a warm chili-infused honey dipping sauce that adds a perfect balance of sweet and spicy notes, making them an irresistible treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Feta Roll Filling

  • 8 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped dill
  • 1 clove garlic, grated

Phyllo Rolls

  • 1620 sheets frozen phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

Chili Honey Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 12 teaspoons chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1/3 cup honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 425° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Mix the filling: In a bowl, combine the crumbled feta cheese, fresh chopped dill, and grated garlic until well mixed, blending all flavors together.
  3. Prepare the phyllo dough: Place one sheet of thawed phyllo dough on a clean surface. Gently fold it in half crosswise. Brush the edges with olive oil to help seal the dough when rolling.
  4. Assemble the rolls: On the short end of the folded phyllo, place about one rounded tablespoon of the feta filling. Roll the dough over the filling while folding the side edges inward to enclose the filling completely, similar to a burrito. Place the roll seam-side down on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat to make between 12 and 16 rolls.
  5. Brush and bake: Lightly brush the tops of each phyllo roll with olive oil to promote a golden crust. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Prepare chili honey sauce: While the rolls are baking, melt the butter and 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the chili flakes and cumin seeds, cooking for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the honey to create a sweet and spicy dipping sauce.
  7. Serve: Once baked, serve the warm feta rolls with the chili honey sauce for dipping or drizzling, enhancing their rich, savory flavor with a sweet and spicy kick.

Notes

  • Phyllo dough dries out very quickly; keep the sheets covered with a damp towel while working to prevent tearing.
  • Adjust the chili flakes in the honey sauce to suit your preferred spice level.
  • These rolls are best served warm for optimal crispiness and flavor.
  • Can be made ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
