Pecan Syrup Recipe

Pecan Syrup Recipe

  • Author: Mariam
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: Approximately 1 ½ cups syrup 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A rich and flavorful homemade pecan syrup made by toasting pecans and simmering them with sugar and water. Perfect for drizzling over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, or adding a nutty sweetness to beverages.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Toast Pecans: Add the chopped pecans to a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat. Toast the pecans for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently to ensure they don’t burn, releasing their natural oils and enhancing the flavor.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Carefully pour the water and granulated sugar into the saucepan with the toasted pecans. Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
  3. Simmer Mixture: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar and infuse the syrup with pecan flavor.
  4. Strain Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain out the pecans and reserve only the liquid syrup. Discard the pecans or save them for use as an ice cream topping or garnish.
  5. Cool and Store: Allow the syrup to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Once cooled, transfer the syrup into a clean syrup bottle or mason jar and store it in the refrigerator. The syrup will keep fresh for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use finely chopped pecans for better flavor extraction during toasting.
  • Stir frequently while toasting to prevent burning, which causes bitterness.
  • You can reuse the strained pecans as a crunchy topping for desserts.
  • Store the syrup refrigerated and shake before use if it separates.
  • This syrup enhances not only breakfast dishes but also cocktails and coffee.
