Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 ¼ cups water
- 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
Instructions
- Toast Pecans: Add the chopped pecans to a medium saucepan and heat over medium heat. Toast the pecans for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently to ensure they don’t burn, releasing their natural oils and enhancing the flavor.
- Combine Ingredients: Carefully pour the water and granulated sugar into the saucepan with the toasted pecans. Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
- Simmer Mixture: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar and infuse the syrup with pecan flavor.
- Strain Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain out the pecans and reserve only the liquid syrup. Discard the pecans or save them for use as an ice cream topping or garnish.
- Cool and Store: Allow the syrup to cool at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Once cooled, transfer the syrup into a clean syrup bottle or mason jar and store it in the refrigerator. The syrup will keep fresh for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- Use finely chopped pecans for better flavor extraction during toasting.
- Stir frequently while toasting to prevent burning, which causes bitterness.
- You can reuse the strained pecans as a crunchy topping for desserts.
- Store the syrup refrigerated and shake before use if it separates.
- This syrup enhances not only breakfast dishes but also cocktails and coffee.
