- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, chopped into small pieces
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (99g) granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup (71g) light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons (28ml) whole milk
Mix-ins
- 1 and 1/2 cups milk chocolate M&Ms
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
Garnish
- 1/4 cup M&Ms
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick spray. Set aside.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter. Heat on low power in 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. Avoid overheating to prevent the chocolate from seizing.
- Incorporate Sugars and Eggs: Whisk the vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture. Then, whisk in the granulated sugar and brown sugar until fully combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk.
- Mix Dough: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Avoid over-mixing to maintain a soft texture.
- Add Mix-ins: Fold in the M&Ms and milk chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
- Portion and Bake: Scoop 1/4 cupfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving enough space between each. Bake one sheet at a time for 16–18 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops appear dark and shiny.
- Garnish and Cool: While the cookies are still warm, press a few extra M&Ms and chocolate chips into the tops for a bakery-style finish. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.
