Ingredients
Scale
For Frying
- 3 cups vegetable oil
For Coating
- 3 whole eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
- ¾ cup parmesan cheese, grated
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
Main Ingredient
- 10 ounces frozen or refrigerated ravioli
To Serve
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
- Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 3 cups of vegetable oil into a wide skillet, filling it to a depth of approximately 1 inch. Heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 375°F (190°C). Test readiness by sprinkling a pinch of the breading mixture into the oil – it should sizzle and pop immediately.
- Whisk Eggs and Milk: In a shallow dish such as a pie pan or wide bowl, whisk together 3 whole eggs with ¼ cup of milk until well combined.
- Prepare Breading Mixture: In a large ziplock bag, combine 1 cup Italian bread crumbs, ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese, ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon ground black pepper. Seal the bag and shake to mix thoroughly.
- Coat the Ravioli: Dip 10 ounces of frozen or refrigerated ravioli into the egg mixture until fully coated. Remove and shake off any excess egg. Then place the ravioli into the ziplock bag with the breading mixture, seal it, and gently shake until each piece is evenly coated.
- Fry the Ravioli: Carefully add the breaded ravioli to the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each batch for about 1 minute per side, or until the ravioli are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve: Sprinkle the toasted ravioli with freshly chopped parsley or basil. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature stays around 375°F for optimal crispiness without absorbing excess oil.
- Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature and cook evenly.
- Use frozen ravioli directly without thawing to maintain shape and prevent bursting in hot oil.
- Parmesan cheese in the breading adds extra flavor and crisp texture.
- Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
