Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these waffles are easy to prepare with a simple batter made from melted chocolate, cocoa powder, and wholesome ingredients. Serve warm with your favorite toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or syrup for an indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk (divided)

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk (divided)
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Melt chocolate: Preheat your waffle iron to ensure it’s ready when the batter is mixed. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips with 1/2 cup of milk. Microwave for 25 seconds, then stir. Repeat heating and stirring until the chocolate mixture is fully melted and smooth.
  2. Whisk wet ingredients: To the melted chocolate mixture, add the remaining 1/2 cup milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and eggs. Whisk thoroughly until the mixture is uniform and smooth.
  3. Whisk dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, and granulated sugar to evenly distribute all dry ingredients.
  4. Combine ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spoon or spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the batter light and fluffy.
  5. Prepare waffle iron: Lightly spray or brush the preheated waffle iron with cooking oil or nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
  6. Fill iron: Spoon about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the batter into each section of the waffle iron, spreading evenly but not overfilling.
  7. Cook waffles: Close the waffle iron and cook the batter for approximately 4 to 7 minutes, or until the waffles are crispy on the outside and fully cooked through the center.
  8. Serve warm: Carefully remove the brownies waffles from the iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings such as syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to maintain a tender texture.
  • Adjust cooking time based on your waffle iron’s heat and thickness preferences.
  • For extra richness, add a handful of chocolate chips to the batter before cooking.
  • These waffles can be kept warm in a low oven while you finish cooking the rest.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a toaster or waffle iron for best texture.
