Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, plus more for pan
- 2 (12-oz.) bags marshmallows
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 10 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Skewers
Instructions
- Prepare the pan: Grease a 13″ x 9″ baking pan generously with butter to prevent sticking.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large pot over medium heat, melt 1 cup of butter. Add the marshmallows and kosher salt, stirring constantly until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth, about 5 to 8 minutes.
- Combine with cereal: Remove the pot from heat and immediately fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until all the pieces are evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Set in pan: Pour the marshmallow and cereal mixture into the prepared baking pan. Using a silicone or metal spatula coated with cooking spray, press and tightly pack the mixture into the pan for a compact shape. Smooth the top evenly.
- Cool and cut: Allow the treats to cool completely at room temperature until set, then cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Roast over fire: Pierce each Rice Krispies treat with a skewer and roast them over an open campfire until the exterior turns golden brown and slightly crisp, about 2 minutes. Rotate carefully to toast evenly without burning.
Notes
- Use silicone or metal spatula coated with cooking spray to prevent sticking when pressing the mixture into the pan.
- Ensure marshmallows are fully melted for smooth mixing and even coating.
- Cook over medium heat to avoid burning butter or marshmallows.
- Roasting adds a smoky flavor and crispy texture, but keep a close eye to prevent flare-ups or burning.
- Skewers can be wooden or metal; if wooden, soak in water before use to prevent burning.
- Store leftover treats in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
